The Breakfast Club band gave birth
in the summer of 2005, it began with Ade and Chris becoming friends in a local
pub and talking about music and bands. They then both discovered that they had each
separately been in bands previously and decided that they would form a band
together. Chris suggested his good friend Robbo to play bass, as Robbo always
dreamed of playing in a band, but they didn’t know any good drummers… a quick
advert on the internet and Stuart arrived. By this point the band had no idea
of what music they wanted to play, would it be a general covers band, or
something else?…
Over a beer in the local pub the guys began chatting about what they
could do, when at that point Simple Minds came on the jukebox, and from that
point they decided to become an 80s
tribute and cover band.
The band name came from one of Chris’s favourite films – The Breakfast Club, which featured the
bands signature song, and the song that came on the jukebox during their early
meeting for the band – Simple Minds Don’t you forget about me.
A few guitarists came and went during the early days of The Breakfast Club, and (like Stu)
after an advert on the internet, Adam auditioned in early 2010 as lead
guitarist, and the rest in history!
Over the 6 years of The Breakfast
Club being together they had their highs and lows, playing small pubs to no
one for next to nothing, just to get their name around the town, to rising up
and playing gigs such as the massive Ricoh Arena in Coventry!
It is therefore safe to say that the band have earned their right to
hold the title as one of the best 80s
tribute and cover bands, not just in the Midlands, but in the UK.
